SAME Endowment Campaign FAQ

SAME Endowment Campaign FAQ

The following questions provide insight into how the endowment works, why it matters, and how supporters can help secure a stronger future for the profession and the nation it serves.

What is the Endowment Campaign?

The Securing the Future Endowment Campaign is an initiative to create permanent, named funds to support the Foundation’s mission in perpetuity. Each endowment contributes to a collective, long‑term investment in the Foundation’s programs focused on STEM education, leadership development, and strengthening the engineering profession in service of national security.

Why is SAME Foundation building endowments?

An endowment provides long-term financial stability by generating annual income— allowing the Foundation to provide stable funding for critical programs that cannot rely solely on annual fundraising and ensuring sustainability for decades to come.

Can I name my endowment?

Yes. Donors may name their endowment in perpetuity. Endowment names may honor an individual, family, organization, mentor, or reflect a personal or professional legacy, subject to Foundation naming guidelines.

Can I designate my endowment to a specific program?

Yes. Donors may choose for their endowment to:

  • Support a specific Foundation program, or
  • Support the Foundation’s mission broadly

Both options are vitally important to the long‑term strength of the Foundation.

Who can contribute to the endowment?

Anyone committed to strengthening the future of engineering and national service—including SAME members, corporations, foundations, posts, and individual supporters—can participate.

Are gifts to the endowment tax-deductible?

Yes. Contributions to the SAME Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donors are encouraged to consult with a tax or financial advisor regarding their specific situation.

How are endowment funds managed and governed?

Endowment funds are invested and overseen according to Foundation investment and governance policies, with fiduciary oversight to ensure responsible stewardship, transparency, and long-term growth.

Will donors be recognized for their support?

Yes. The Foundation will maintain a permanent Wall of Endowments recognizing all named endowments. Endowment giving also provides opportunities for lasting recognition and legacy impact. Donors may choose limited or anonymous recognition if preferred.

How can I learn more or discuss a potential gift?

Supporters are encouraged to contact the SAME Foundation to explore giving options and determine how their contribution can align with their philanthropic goals.
