Overview of Advances in Fire Protection for DoD Hangars

GHD has been working closely with NAVFAC Fire under their NAVFAC MIDLANT Fire Protection IDIQ contract.  GHD has performed multiple hangar renovations over the past decade spanning multiple policy/criteria iterations and have multiple lessons learned while dealing with AFFF transitions.  This presentation is to cover the progression of criteria changes, available alternatives, impacts to end-users during the project, PFAS implications.

Matt Polley has over 14 years of Fire Protection Engineering experience, working primarily on DoD projects worldwide.  Matt previously worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers and was part of the Technical Center of Expertise for Aircraft Hangar Fire Protection. He has been involved with all facets of aircraft hangar designs and is now an integral part of GHD’s AFFF/PFAS team. GHD has been heavily involved with the Navy’s AFFF transition over the past nine years and has been working on multiple hangars at NAS Oceana, coordinating and collaborating with NAVFAC Fire during the recent policy changes around Hangar Fire Protection.
