NYC Post Resiliency Lunch & Learn Series 2026

Wednesday, May 27, 2026 | 12 PM – 1:30 PM

About the Event

The New York City Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) will host our fifth Resilience Series lunch and learn of the 2026 season. Karen Ashton, PE (Senior Project Manager, Stantec) will serve as the moderator for a discussion between Adriana Kocovic, PMP, ENV SP (Director of Green Infrastructure, NYCDEP) and Bernadette Callahan, PE (Green Infrastructure Lead, Stantec). Their topic is titled, “Advancing Green Infrastructure for a Resilient NYC.” This presentation provides an overview of challenges, solutions, and emerging initiatives shaping the future of stormwater management in New York City.

Participants of this session will be able to (1) identify the design, siting, and construction factors that most influence the performance of precast porous concrete panel (PPCP) systems in dense urban rights of way; (2) evaluate observed performance issues in PPCP installations and apply proven, field tested maintenance methods and equipment sequencing to restore and sustain infiltration capacity; (3) apply lessons learned from PPCP design, construction, and maintenance to refine GI standards and inform future stormwater strategies, including cloudburst and extreme rainfall applications; and (4) apply lessons learned from NYC DEP’s porous pavement program to improve stormwater management and CSO reduction strategies, with particular emphasis on performance-based maintenance, sediment control, and adapting green infrastructure systems to increasingly intense rainfall and future cloudburst resilience planning.

Attending this session enables participants to earn 1.5 PDHs towards maintaining Professional Engineer licensure. We are seeking approval for 1.5 GBCI CEUs and 1.5 AIA LUs. PDHs and CEUs are only available for those attending the live session.  To join the session, please use the link below.  You are welcome to forward this invite to others whom you feel may benefit from this session.
