As Board Chair and President of the SAME Foundation, I am proud to share our Donor Impact Report for 2025.
Ten years ago, in 2016 when this Foundation was established, it was under the compelling purpose of fostering engineering leadership for our nation. This purpose goes beyond any single event or program. It is a call to support individuals across the continuum of their entire career—from first steps as students discover a passion for STEM, to young professionals gaining technical skills, to emerging leaders preparing to guide their organizations, communities, and the engineering profession. In 2025, your generosity helped make that possible for hundreds of students, mentors, servicemembers, and professionals across the country.
Thanks to your generous support—over $540,000 in contributions and $241,000 in grants—the Foundation has been able to greatly expand our investments this past year, most notably in the STEM/Engineering & Construction Camps, which notched another record year, with 272 students working alongside 172 mentors for a week of immersive, hands-on experiences across five military installations. A successful pilot of a STEM camp in Honolulu, Hawaii, will also join our program as the sixth official national camp starting in the 2026 season.
This purpose goes beyond any single event or program. It is a call to support individuals across the continuum of their entire career—from first steps as students discover a passion for STEM, to young professionals gaining technical skills, to emerging leaders preparing to guide their organizations, communities, and the engineering profession.

Students also started their STEM journey through our STEM Pathways program. Over 180 Indigenous students gained access to robotics, engineering, environmental science, and technology programs through a series of grants and events held in conjunction with Indigenous communities. The program also embarked on an awareness campaign at key conferences around the country to connect with over 14,500 teachers, parents, and Tribal leaders.
The Leader Development Program saw the graduation of 19 professionals, and 20 more participants begin their curriculum as the seventh cohort since 2019. Alumni from this program continue to make an outsized impact within the Society and their organizations as they step up to take on leadership, with 95 percent indicating that they aspired to be more active within SAME.
Lastly, we expanded support this year to SAME’s Career Transition Workshop and Credentialing Program. These worthy investments in career assistance are critical in helping transitioning servicemembers and other engineering professionals secure needed credentials, lower financial barriers to testing and study supplies, and bring their technical and leadership expertise honed during uniformed service to private industry.
As you read our report, I encourage you to look beyond the individual programs and see the broader impact we are making on the next generation of engineering leaders. A student discovering the possibilities in STEM through STEM Pathways becomes a camper tomorrow. A camper enters the industry, eventually gaining professional expertise and technical competencies through the Career Assistance programs. A professional learns how to lead through the Leader Development Program. That’s how we are fostering engineering leadership for the nation—through our cradle-to-grave investments.

Building Futures Through STEM
For over two decades, SAME’s STEM/Engineering & Construction Camps have introduced students to the possibilities in the engineering, construction and architecture world. Through immersive week-long experiences hosted on military installations, campers gain hands-on exposure to engineering challenges, leadership development, teamwork, and problem-solving while learning directly from professionals serving in the military engineering and A/E/C communities.
In 2025, the program reached new heights with a record total of 272 students from 37 states and territories participating in the five national camps hosted in partnership with the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Air Force. Along with tackling real-world engineering challenges during their week at camp, students built teamwork skills and learned how to ideate, test, and lead alongside their peers.
The program also broke new ground with a pilot camp held at Honolulu, Hawaii. Led by members of the Leader Development Program and resourced by the SAME Foundation and Honolulu Post, this successful pilot set the stage for the camp to graduate as a fully-fledged sixth national camp starting in 2026.

None of this would be possible without the support of Camps volunteer staff and mentors, who dedicate their time and expertise each year to inspiring future STEM professionals. Financial support provided by the SAME Foundation through the Camps Mentoring Program helps reduce financial barriers for mentors, making sure that campers get opportunities to connect with real engineering professionals who demonstrate the power and potential of STEM careers.
Each summer, campers leave with new skills, new confidence, new friends, and new understandings of the opportunities available to them. Thanks to the support of our generous donors, the first step of the next generation’s STEM journey often starts here, at one of our camps.

Mentors at the STEM/Engineering & Construction Camps are the force that transforms curiosity into confidence. Every summer, young professionals, service members, former campers, and engineers of all disciplines volunteer their time to guide a team of students through the rigors of a week at camp.

Bringing STEM Opportunities to More Students
The STEM Pathways program is built on a simple belief: meaningful STEM outreach begins by meeting students where they are. Through partnerships with Indigenous communities, the program takes engineering activities directly to these underserved students.
In 2025, STEM Pathways supported three regional programs across communities in Alaska, Florida, and New Mexico, each one delivering hands-on STEM events that connected students with engineering, robotics, environmental science, architecture, aerospace, and emerging technologies. Generous support from donors and $120,000 in grants from the United Engineering Foundation (UEF) also allowed the program to carry out an awareness campaign, with volunteers attending American Indian Science & Engineering Society Conference (over 3,500 attendees), Alaska Federation of Natives Conference (over 6,000 attendees), and SAME’s Small Business Conference (over 5,000 attendees).

Anchorage, Alaska
Through a total of $25,855 spread across five mini-grants, the Anchorage Post and its Indigenous partners invested directly in community-driven education initiatives designed to spark curiosity and excitement in STEM careers.
- A hydroponics garden project started at the Mertarvik School.
- New robotics equipment and microscopes for six schools (Slana School, Kenny Lake School, Glennallen School, Upstream Learning, Mentasta School, Cantwell School) in Alaska’s interior.
- Expansion of the Full STEAM indoor drone piloting program at Kusilvak Career Academy.
- Support of the Math in a Cultural Context program, which combines rigorous math instruction with cultural heritage, at the Alaska Native Cultural Charter School.
- Launch of a robotics program at Campbell Elementary STEM School.
Panama City, Florida
The Panama City Post continued its partnership with the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma to host the Indigenous Pathways Camp in 2025. This three-day camp provided 20 students with STEM experiences they would not typically encounter at home, such as the exploration of coastal ecosystems through a bioluminescence field experience and training at the Kennedy Space Center.
Albuquerque, New Mexico
In November, the Albuquerque Post partnered with regional Indigenous organizations to host a STEAM Day. During the full-day event, 35 students visited six different stations, each with different STEM-related group challenges.

“Through these collaborations, participants gain far more than technical knowledge. They build mutual respect, deepen cultural understanding, and inspire the next generation of Indigenous leaders. When Indigenous knowledge and STEM come together, they create opportunities for innovation, learning, and a stronger future for our communities. Developing Leaders Who Multiply Impact
SAME’s Leader Development Program remains one of the Foundation’s signature investments in the future of the engineering profession. Fully funded through donor support, the program identifies emerging leaders from across industry, government, and the uniformed services and prepares them for greater leadership roles through an intensive year-long curriculum.
In 2025, the program celebrated the graduation of 19 members of the 2024-2025 cohort during the 2025 Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo and watched the 20 members of the next cohort begin their leadership journey. Through approximately 120 hours of leadership instruction, small group collaboration, and practical exercises, participants developed the skills needed to lead teams, build consensus, and solve complex challenges.
Graduation is only the beginning of this program, however. Alumni continue to step into leadership positions within their organizations and within the Society. They have been inducted into the Academy of Fellows, served as mentors to subsequent cohorts, even taken on leadership of the Leader Development Community of Interest itself. Five years after the launch of the inaugural cohort, LDP has evolved into a proven leadership pipeline helping develop the leaders who will guide SAME and the engineering community into the future.

From Learning to Leading
A cornerstone of the Leader Development Program is the Utilization Project Implementation Capstone (UPIC), which challenges participants to apply their leadership training while creating meaningful value for SAME and the profession. The 2024-2025 cohort completed 10 UPICs and the 2025-2026 cohort completed 11 UPICs that addressed needs at the local, regional, and national levels.
Preserving Institutional Knowledge
Led by Zachary Pesicka (Class of 2024-2025), Post Pathfinder leveraged artificial intelligence to help SAME volunteers more easily access institutional knowledge—including lessons learned, event examples, leadership guidance, and practical resources that often reside across multiple documents and systems.
Building Leaders at the Huntsville Post
Led by Brent Kent and Harold Eberbach (Class of 2025-2026), this UPIC bridged a leader development gap for early-career members at the Huntsville Post. Through a framework developed by the project, the Post was able to launch its first cohort in February 2026.
STEM Outreach in the Mid Atlantic
This UPIC, led by Robert Sinclair (Class of 2025-2026), carried on a project completed by members of the previous cohort and conducted a STEM event with hands-on activities for students at the Boys & Girls Club in Chesapeake, Va., alongside the 2026 SAME Mid-Atlantic Small Business Outreach + Industry Day.

Investing in Professional Excellence
In 2025, the SAME Foundation expanded its investments in the next generation of engineering leaders by helping underwrite SAME’s Credentialing Assistance Program (CAP), Credentialing Review Course (CRC), and Career Transition Workshop (CTW). Together, these programs help professionals strengthen their technical expertise, pursue valuable credentials, and successfully navigate key career transitions.
Both CAP and CRC help lower barriers that can delay or prevent professionals from pursuing important credentials such as Professional Engineer (P.E.) and Project Management Professional (PMP). By helping cover study material costs and exam fees, these programs let servicemembers and young professionals enhance their professional credibility, open new career opportunities, and strengthen the engineering workforce. CRC also provides opportunities for emerging professionals to connect with seasoned mentors, who can assist in their journey to securing credentials that serve as the next step in their career.

Advancing Careers, Expanding Opportunities
Helping Veterans Find Their Next Fit
The Foundation also broadened its support for veteran career transition through its financial support for travel stipends as part of SAME’s Career Transition Workshop. This event lets servicemembers, young professionals, and job seekers of all kinds meet with recruiters and mentors, get their resumes reviewed, attend career-focused educational sessions, and gain access to career transition resources all designed to support a successful next step in their career journey.
The 2025 workshop brought together 105 transitioning servicemembers representing every military service, along with recruiters, mentors, and industry leaders from more than 40 firms and agencies. Participants benefited from career-focused training, one-on-one mentoring, résumé and LinkedIn reviews, professional headshots, networking opportunities, and direct engagement with hiring organizations through structured interviews.

About the SAME Foundation
In 2016, with a vision to strengthen and expand the philanthropic efforts of SAME and the lasting contributions of its members, partners, and stakeholders in every phase of progress in the engineering, architecture, and construction fields over the last century, the SAME Foundation was established to “foster engineering leadership for the nation.”
The SAME Foundation supports programs that help introduce youth to STEM, support them on their journey to STEM careers, and develop emerging leaders within the A/E/C profession. Signature efforts include the SAME Leader Development Program, Camps Mentoring Program, and STEM Pathways Program. The SAME Foundation also provides a secure and beneficial repository for charitable and other bequests from members of the Society and the public.
2025 SAME Foundation Financial Summary
SAME Foundation revenue totaled $750,707 for 2025, supported by $496,319 in contributions (donations), investment income of $208,119, and $46,269 in other income. Expenses in 2025 were $351,429 to support enhanced program activities. Net income increased, contributing to growth in net assets to $2.6 million, with total assets reaching $5.8 million. This overall portfolio includes $3.16 million in investments held on behalf of 15 SAME Posts, which are restricted but contribute to lower management fees for all.
