Post Notes: November-December 2023

The Panama City Post and Emerald Coast Post jointly hosted the Southeast Tri-Regional JETS and Power Up Energy Expo in October, drawing over 400 attendees. The three-day event featured more than 20 federal agencies, including briefings from USACE South Atlantic Division; multiple USACE districts (Savannah, Wilmington, Charleston, Mobile, and New Orleans); USACE Huntsville Center; the Air Force’s Natural Disaster Recovery Division; NAVFAC Southeast; the Department of Veterans Affairs; and the General Services Administration.

Attendees also enjoyed a beach bonfire networking event to kick off the symposium and a tour of Tyndall AFB on the final day.


The Philadelphia Post hosted its 17th Annual Small Business Conference in October, bringing together representatives from USACE Philadelphia District, USACE Norfolk District, and the General Services Administration to discuss upcoming projects as well as insights on doing business with the agencies. In addition to the agency briefings, attendees enjoyed numerous opportunities over the two days for networking.


The Pikes Peak Post in October held its 2023 Golf Tournament at the U.S. Air Force Academy Eisenhower Golf Course. Despite the cold weather and clouds, members turned out to support the Post and raise funds for its education and mentoring programs.


The Washington DC Post and Northern Virgina Post, for the October session of their Leadership & Mentoring Program, hosted a session with Lucian Niemeyer, F.SAME, former Assistant Secretary of Defense (Installations, Energy & Environment), and current Chief Executive Officer of Building Cyber Security, a non-profit established in 2020.

In his presentation “Leadership Lessons from a Career of Spectacular Failures and Marginal Success,” Niemeyer recapped his professional leadership challenges and the lessons learned along the way.


At the Space Coast Post meeting in September, members heard an update on federal contracting from David Jackson, representing the Office of Congressman Bill Posey (R-Fla.); and a briefing from Steve Szabo, Executive Vice President of Spaceport Development for Space Florida, the state’s aerospace finance and development authority, on its current work across Florida and especially the Space Coast area, recognized as a hub of space exploration work with more than 50 projects in the pipeline.


The Honolulu Post held its 2023 Pacific Industry Forum in September. This annual event, with a theme this year of “Together Towards Tomorrow,” brought together speakers from USACE Pacific Division, USACE Honolulu District, NAVFAC Pacific, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard,

U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and the Small Business Administration, as well as representatives from industry, to discuss upcoming programs, force posture, and opportunities in the Indo-Pacific theater.


The Atlanta Post held its first-ever 5k Fun Run in August along the Chattahoochee River, a trail maintained by the National Park Service. Organized by Christian Ward, the event raised over $2,000 for the Post’s scholarship program.


Mt Tacoma post awards

The Mount Tacoma Post has resumed its annual joint meeting with ASCE, a long-standing tradition that builds knowledge and networking opportunities throughout both organizations. This year, attendees heard from David Park, Ph.D., and Hailee Hammerquist with UMC on “Planning for a Better Tomorrow: Utilizing Accurate Models to Shape the Future.”


The San Antonio Post supported the 2023 STEMKAMP Family Day in June. STEMKAMP is a not-for-profit program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Kids of Active Duty Military Personnel) that offers youth at military- connected schools an immersive five-day camp full of STEM activities and enrichment. Over 200 students were able to attend.

During the event, Brig. Gen. Patrice Melancon, F.SAME, USAFR (Ret.), gave a presentation on the rebuild at Tyndall AFB, Fla., discussing planning, design, and construction considerations as well as some of the ongoing innovations happening as part of the multi-phase program.


The Oklahoma City Post hosted its 2023 Industry Day in August. The event featured business development, education, and networking.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of presentations about future federal contracting opportunities, from USACE Tulsa District, USACE Galveston District, and USACE Omaha District; Tinker AFB; Oklahoma National Guard; and the Small Business Administration.

The program also included briefings from state and local agencies.


The Houston-Galveston Post provided a valuable session for its Leader Development Program in October, where members heard from Lee Lennard, F.SAME, President & CEO, BGE Inc., and a highly regarded executive in the industry, on his insights for successful leadership.


The Northern Virginia Post held a well- attended sporting clay event in September at the Bull Run Shooting Center. The weather cooperated, offering a great day for 48 participants to compete and raise over $6,000 for the Post’s scholarship fund.

Stopping by the Sacramento Post in September, he attended the Sustaining Members Forum where he met up with local leaders and event organizers.

In October, he visited the Tri-Regional JETS and PowerUp event hosted by the Panama City Post and Emerald Coast Post, where he presented Erin Stewart, Chris Hood, and Emily DeVore with Presidential Coins for their exceptional work in organizing the event.
