Roger Wozny, PE, LEED AP, F.SAME (Dist.), was honored with the Academy of Fellows Golden Eagle Award for outstanding contributions to the engineering profession at the Society of American Military Engineers Joint Engineering Training Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. His remarkable 43-year career at The Schemmer Associates stands as a testament to his leadership, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the engineering community. Rising through the ranks from electrical engineer to company president (1986-2003) and ultimately chairman (2003-2014), Wozny demonstrated a rare blend of technical expertise and visionary leadership that left a lasting impact on the firm and the industry at large. Since joining SAME in 1974, Wozny has been a driving force within the organization. As a long-time member of the Omaha Post, he played a pivotal role in growing its membership to more than 500 members by 1985. His legacy includes the creation of the Omaha Post Student Mentoring Program, which introduces over 100 students annually to the engineering profession, as well as establishing perpetual scholarship endowments that continue to support future generations of engineers. His distinguished service to SAME spans numerous senior leadership roles, including Regional Vice President, National Director, Chair of the Academy of Fellows, and SAME National President (2001-2002), among just a few civilians to hold the position during a nearly 60-year period from1955-2012. In 2016, Wozny was chosen as one of the five Founding Board Members of the SAME Foundation to foster engineering leadership for the nation. His influence and mentorship have helped shape the trajectory of the Society for decades, for which he was recognized with the SAME Gold Medal in 2005. Even in retirement, Wozny remains a steadfast supporter: He is a regular presence at JETC, having attended over 40 consecutive conferences; actively participates in the Fellows Investiture; and volunteers every year to serve as a Toulmin Medal judge for the best article in TME.
