WWII Veteran, Ed Morrissette, Remembered

With solemn hearts, the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Omaha Post would like to recognize the life of Ed Morrisette. On June 24, 2024, at age 100, Ed passed away.

At the age of 17, he joined the Army and fought in Africa and Europe. Ed survived D-Day and then 11 more months of combat before World War II ended in Europe. In 2019, he received the French Legion of Honor from Guillaume Lacroix, the consul of France to the Midwest, when he dodged German machine-gun fire when he landed on Omaha Beach.

After the war, Ed Morrissette earned a civil engineering degree and worked as a traffic engineer for Virginia DOT and the Strategic Air Command (SAC) in California, which eventually brought him to Offutt Air Force Base. In the mid-1970s, he retired from SAC and worked at Omaha Public Power District.

Ed was a strong supporter, member, and friend to the SAME Omaha Post. Thank you for your service. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service for Ed Morrissette will be held at 10:30 a.m. August 16, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Papillion (420 N Washington St, Papillion, NE 68046).
